If you enjoy good traditional Italian food, make your way down to the Troy's Italian Community Center this weekend. The ICC has been a HUGE part of that neighborhood for as long as I can remember. The "Feast", as we from the neighborhood used to call it, used to be held in Washington Park. I have so many fond memories of this event at the park. The pizza was incredible, as was the camaraderie of the residents of what is now known as Little Italy.
Back then, all the first and second generation families still populated the area -- and everyone knew each other. The ICC played a big part, as a meeting place for friends, and a place where parents in the neighborhood had wedding receptions for their sons and daughters.
The ICC today still has many of the old families as members, and the food is still wonderful. Everyone involved with the day to day operation deserves so much credit, for helping to keep the traditions of the Italian culture alive and well -- as is Troy's Little Italy neighborhood group. The festa runs from Friday, through Sunday, featuring some fabulous entertainment over the course of the weekend. The Good Times Band, TS Ensemble, and Mr. Entertainment, Al Bruno will all be on hand, playing Italian favorites, along with a great selection of various styles of musical genres. Al Bruno's show by the way will be broadcast live on station, WKLI (Magic 100.9FM) on Sunday, from 2-6p.m. There will also be a variety of other events happening over the festa weekend, so check it all out, and come on home and, 'Enjoy Troy'!
The ICC by the way is located on 5th Ave., between Ferry St. & Liberty St.
